This book is for 4 of my reading challenges.
Outdo Yourself Challenge(10/200)
50 States Challenge(Florida)
A-Z Challenge(T)
52 Books in 52 Weeks(Wk.5)

"Tourist Season" by Carl Hiaasen
Product Description(Amazon.com)
The only trace of the first victim was his Shriner's fez washed up on the Miami beach. The second victim, the head of the city's chamber of commerce, was found dead with a toy rubber alligator lodged in his throat. And that was just the beginning... Now Brian Keyes, reporter turned private eye, must move from muckraking to rooting out murder, in a caper that will mix football players, politicians, and police with a group of fanatics and a very hungry crocodile.
# Paperback: 416 pages
# Publisher: Grand Central Publishing (May 9, 2005)
# Language: English
# ISBN-10: 0446695718
# ISBN-13: 978-0446695718

MY THOUGHTS: This is the first time I've ever read this author. I really enjoyed his way of writing. Lots of details and information without getting bogged down with them. This book is about a guy Skip Wily, who thinks all the tourists in Florida should leave and let the state go back to wilderness. He's a reporter for a newspaper, likeable and poplar, so when he goes off the deep end and starts his own revolutionary group to get the tourists to move, it kind of surprises a few people. As tourists start coming up missing and then murdered something is terribly wrong. Brian Keyes is a reporter turned private detective. Brian and Cab Macualy are the only people who know Skip is the fanatic that is killing the tourists. Skip's big idea is to abduct an innocent pure girl and Brian and Cab have figured out who that is. They race against time to stop Skip and his group. I can't really get into all this without giving it away. Really good book, you should pick it up for sure.

REVIEW - THE DOUBLE CROSS

"The Double Cross" by Clare O' Donohue

Product Description(Amazon.com)
A knotty new Nell Fitzgerald mystery in the series that's beguiling cozy fans and quilters alike.

Nell Fitzgerald and the Someday Quilts ladies are asked to lead a quilting workshop at a new bed and breakfast in upstate New York. However, the retreat quickly takes an unexpected dark turn. When a body is found in the woods, and one of their own is the chief suspect, the ladies must rely on their craftiest thinking as they embark on their most personal case yet.

With smart, sassy Nell leading the charge to clear her friend's name and find the real murderer, The Double Cross is sure to confirm Clare O'Donohue as a master of the mystery genre.
# Paperback: 304 pages
# Publisher: Plume; Original edition (September 28, 2010)
# Language: English
# ISBN-10: 0452296420
# ISBN-13: 978-0452296428

MY THOUGHTS: Like a good mystery? Like Quilts? Well, this book has it all. Mystery, suspense and of course Quilts. I'm a quilter myself so this book grabbed me when I read the synopsis. I also like murder mysteries. So this book was a great combination. As the ladies pack up to go to the retreat there is a mystery revolving around one of them. It seems that the person holding the retreat is an old boyfriend and his wife is the woman who took him away from her. And then a body shows up and one of the ladies is the prime suspect. Can Nell and the rest of the quilt club clear their friend? What happens to the old boyfriend? Who will have to read the book to find out.

Bella and Luke playing on the floor. I got down on the floor so I could get a good picture of them. It took a few shots to get them to look at me. They were playing! The look they gave me says, "We're playing grandma, don't bother us."

JUST ME

It's Thursday already! Where did the week go? It seems to fly by. This is my weekly feature called Just Me. It's about me and my family with some books thrown in.

Well, as I said this week flew by. I've done some cleaning this week. And got caught up on the laundry. Plus I've tried to work on my Ripple Afghan this week. It's going really slow.

And of course I've played with the babies, Bella and Luke. Heather, that's Bella and Luke's mom, was sneaking up on the twins with Q-tips to clean their ears after they had their bath.

This is Heather tickling Bella, she was just laughing so much. When Heather stopped tickling Bella, Bella looks at her like "well, do it again Mommy."

My hubby went and got another load of wood. It's been so darn cold this month we are going through wood like crazy. And yes that's my car, it's really dusty and dirty. It needs a bath, but it's going to have to wait until it warms up some.

As for books, I'm reading Tourist Season by Carl Hiaasen. It's my book clubs pick for this month. It's a new author for me and I really like this book. But I don't think I'm going to get it done before book club meets next Thursday. It's a really thick book. It's 404 pages and I'm on page 187.

Well that's the highlights this week. Have a great weekend everyone.

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS

I was over at Whatcha Readin', Books? I noticed there was a new meme I hadn't seen before so went to check it out. It's over at Sam's place Tiny Library. What's the name of this new meme, it's Wonderful Wednesday. Here's some info you might like.

The meme is called Wonderful Wednesdays and it's all about spotlighting and recommending some of our most loved books, even if we haven't read them recently. Each week will have a different theme or genre of book to focus on.

This weeks spotlight is on your favorite childhood book. Some of my favorites are Swiss Family Robinson by Johann D. Wyss and Old Yeller by Fred Gipson. But my all time favorite is Treasure Island by Robert Lewis Stevenson. I wanted to be a pirate and discover treasures of my own. I reread a couple of those favorites a couple years ago. It was like visiting an old friend. Do you have a favorite childhood book to share? Head over to Sam's place and check it out.

* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This book is my book clubs pick for this month. It's a pretty thick book and I don't know if I'll get it done in time. It's pretty good so far.

TEASER
A pile of men's clothing lay in the middle of the floor: blue silk socks, turned inside-out; an undershirt; a pair of soiled Jockey shorts; and a powder-blue double-knit suit with a J. C. Penney label. The legs of the suit had been sheared off below the knees. Lying beneath the clothes was a pair of highly polished black Florsheims.

BLOGGIESTA - THE FINISH LINE

Over at Maw Books the Bloggiesta is over. But there is a place to link up your finish line post. There is also a survey to fill out. She is talking about June for the next Bloggiesta so make sure you check back from time to time.

I didn't get as much done this time around. And I didn't get all the mini challenges done either. So here's what I did get done.

10 Things Bloggers Shouldn't Do
Book Organization
Buttons and Banners
Email Best Practices
Google Forms

I didn't get the Google Forms posted but I did work on one. I've started a spreadsheet of the review books I get. I'm still learning how to use this form so I'm just doing the basic right now. Overall I learned some new things this time around with Bloggiesta. Thanks so much to all the people who set this up.

A few months ago I decided to start a regular weekly feature on my blog. Since I mostly have things about books I decided to do a feature called Just Me. It's about me and my family and all the things we do besides books.

REVIEW - REMARKABLE CREATURES

This book is for 1 of my reading challenges.
Outdo Yourself Challenge(8 of 200)

"Remarkable Creatures" by Tracy Chevalier

Product Description
(Amazon.com)
A voyage of discovery, two remarkable women, and an extraordinary time and place enrich bestselling author Tracy Chevalier's new novel.
On the windswept, fossil-strewn beaches of the English coast, poor and uneducated Mary Anning learns that she has a unique gift: "the eye" to spot fossils no one else can see. When she uncovers an unusual fossilized skeleton in the cliffs near her home, she sets the religious community on edge, the townspeople to gossip, and the scientific world alight. After enduring bitter cold, thunderstorms, and landslips, her challenges only grow when she falls in love with an impossible man.
Mary soon finds an unlikely champion in prickly Elizabeth Philpot, a middle-class spinster who shares her passion for scouring the beaches. Their relationship strikes a delicate balance between fierce loyalty, mutual appreciation, and barely suppressed envy, but ultimately turns out to be their greatest asset.

# Language: English
# ISBN-10: 0452296722
# ISBN-13: 978-0452296725

MY THOUGHTS: This book is set in a time of genteel women. When a woman isn't supposed to get dirty. She is to be a lady. The author weaves a wonderful story of Elizabeth and Mary and of course the fossils. But there is also romance in the wind. When Mary finds the perfect fossil she sets the world upside down. Does Mary get her recognition for her find? Does Mary and Elizabeth keep their friendship in tack? You'll have to read the book to find out.

JUST ME

I almost forgot about it being Thursday. My weekly feature of Just Me is a little about me, besides books.

The babies are growing and learning so much. They are 6 months old now. This is Luke romping on Grandpa and chewing his fist. Hopefully the teeth will break soon. He's been so cranky the last couple of weeks.

This is Bella, she stole her brothers pacifier right out of his mouth.

We had a winter storm last week and we are getting another one today. They are saying 3 to 6 inches of snow. I'm so ready for spring. How much longer till spring? I'll have to figure that one out later.

As for books, I made it to the library before the freezing rain hit this week. Got several books for my reading challenges.

Murder List - Julie Garwood(see my review here)
Elvis & Olive - Stephanie Watson
The Food Bible - Judith Wills

I also picked up my copy of Tourist Season by Carl Hiaasen. That's the book clubs pick for this month. It's a pretty thick book. I'm not sure I'll get it done before the next meeting. But it's pretty interesting so far. Anyone read this book? Let me know I'll come check it out.

That's about it for now. Have a great weekend and stay warm.

REVIEW - MURDER LIST

This book is for 2 of my reading challenges.
Romantic Suspense Challenge
50 States Challenge(Illinois)

"Murder List" by Julie Garwood
Product Description(Amazon.com)
There are few authors who can weave nail-biting thrills, edge-of-your-seat drama, and romantic suspense as masterfully as Julie Garwood. Now she ratchets up the tension with Murder List, in which evil is on the hunt– and proves to be methodically organized and chillingly successful.
When Chicago detective Alec Buchanan is offered a prime position with the FBI, it is the perfect opportunity to leave the Windy City and follow in his brothers’ footsteps to the top echelons of law enforcement. But first he must complete one last assignment (and one that he is not too happy about): acting as a glorified bodyguard to hotel heiress Regan Hamilton Madison. The gorgeous exec has become entangled in some potentially deadly business. Someone has e-mailed her a graphic crime-scene photo–and the victim is no stranger.
Regan suspects that the trouble started when she agreed to help a journalist friend expose a shady self-help guru who preys on lonely, vulnerable women. In fact, the smooth-as-an-oil-slick Dr. Lawrence Shields may be responsible for the death of one of his devotees, which was ruled a suicide. Hoping to find some damning evidence, Regan attends a Shields seminar.
At the gathering, the doctor persuades his guests to partake in an innocent little “cleansing” exercise. He asks them to make a list of the people who have hurt or deceived them over the years, posing the question: Would your world be a better place if these people ceased to exist? Treating the exercise as a game, Regan plays along. After ten minutes, Shields instructs the participants to bring their sheets of paper to the fireplace and throw them into the flames. But Regan misses this part of the program when she exits the room to take a call–and barely escapes a menacing individual in the parking lot.
The experience is all but forgotten–until the first person on Regan’s list turns up dead. Shock turns to horror when other bodies from the list start to surface, as a harrowing tango of desire and death is set into motion. Now brutal murders seem to stalk her every move–and a growing attraction to Alec may compromise her safety, while stirring up tender emotions she thought she could no longer feel. Yet as the danger intensifies and a serial killer circles ever closer, Regan must discover who has turned her private revenge fantasies into grisly reality.
# Publisher: Ballantine Books (March 1, 2005)
# Language: English
# ISBN-10: 0345453832
# ISBN-13: 978-0345453839

MY THOUGHTS: Julie Garwood is one of my favorite authors. She writes the story to include mystery, suspense, and romance. They are all equal and one doesn't overshadow the other. They blend together, mystery, suspense and romance. This story is about Regan Madison. She's rich, beautiful and smart, but she is also very insecure about romance. Then along comes Alec to upset the apple cart. Alec is assigned to project her after a picture is emailed to Regan of a dead cop. Alec is about to leave the police department to go to the FBI. Regan is trying her best not to get involved with Alec, but of course it doesn't work. Then people start dying from Regan's "Murder List". I can't tell too much or it will give the ending away. But does Regan and Alec get together? Do they catch the person responsible? You'll have to read the book to find out.

The 50 States(Georgia)

"Mo' Dirty" by Darrell King
(from back cover)
Peter Whiskey Battle is a 24-year-old enforcer for Peola, Georgia's Bad Boyz II Syndicate, a dangerous street gang controlling the lion's share of illicit narcotics coming into the bustling port of Savannah. After murdering two local snitches for David Ambrosia, the suave, smooth-talking leader of the syndicate and Whickey's best friend, he is given an offer he can't refuse.
The underworld bosses and thugs of the low country have joined forces with a handful of rogue cops to bring an end to the term of meddlesome police chief Mickey O' Mally, whose wat on crime has angered many of the shot callers and big ballers of the dirty-dirty. With the headache of the top cop gone, they can depend on the crooked officers to eliminate their connections.
Everything goes as planned, until Whiskey begins a torrid affair that ends in the death of his lover. Is he guilty of killing his famous lover, or is he simply a victim of circumstances, considering the powerful enemies she recently made? You be the judge!

MY THOUGHTS: Mo' Dirty is a street-lit novel with lots of drugs, sex, and murder. Whiskey is hired to take out the police chief who is getting in everyone's way. The big bosses, who are serving time in prison, want Micky O' Mally out out the way. The story is full of non-stop drama, police corruption, and murder that will keep you glued to the pages. Mo' Dirty is a page-turner that will keep you guessing until the last page. Did Whiskey kill his famous lover? Does the police chief get killed? You'll have to read the book to find out.

JUST ME

I missed Just Me last week. It was a crazy kind of week. So I'm here this week. This is a weekly feature I'm doing to let you all see into my life. Besides books that is. This twins are growing like weeds. They are 6 months old now. Luke is trying to crawl. He's up on his knees and rocking. It won't be long now. Then we are in trouble.

Bella hasn't quite got it yet. She just rolls where ever she wants to go.

We also had a winter storm blow through this week. We got 5 to 6 inches of the white wet stuff.

Which kept me from the library this week. But I've been reading a couple of review books.

Mo' Dirty by Darrell King

Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier

I also got my Project 365 done. That's a scrapbook project I was working on. The thought behind this was to take a picture a day. But I just did mine by weeks. So my album has 52 pages of scrapbook pages. If you want to take a peek at them just go HERE.

That's it for this week. Have a wonderful weekend.

REVIEW - DISMISSED WITH PREJUDICE

"Dismissed with Prejudice" by Fletcher Cockrell
Product Description(Amazon.com)
Dismissed with Prejudice is a legal drama that deals with the dark side of a powerful university, major college sports and state government. At the urging of a wealthy businessman and booster with mafia ties, an assistant coach is fired under false pretenses. Landon Duhon, a smalltown lawyer, reads about it in the paper and becomes suspicious. It's the third assistant in the last seven years fired by the same multi-million-dollar head coach, a political schmoozer and philanderer. Duhon sends his colleague to investigate and slowly uncovers layer upon layer of fraud, corruption and backroom deals. The assistant's career is over regardless of the outcome, but he decides to sue for wrongful termination, setting in motion a legal battle that escalates into threats, violence and murder. The novel is a classic "little guy against the system" story with insight into the bureaucracy, legal environment, and corrupting influence of money in the university and political arena.

# Language: English
# ISBN-10: 1448919002
# ISBN-13: 978-1448919000

MY THOUGHTS: Sometimes bogged down with too much info this book was a little slow at times. But once over that hurdle it moved right along. Full of suspense and mystery, you will follow Landon Duhon through the trial with all the ups and downs of getting ready for the trial. What he finds is shocking as well as a surprise to me. It makes you think this could really happen. Very interesting book full of mystery and suspense.
